Ezoic Review: The Search For The Best Ad Network

Partnering with an ad network can be a great way to make money blogging.

Ezoic doesn’t like to call itself an ad network, but they do place ads and pay publishers for said ad placements.

Yes, you can earn money by having Ezoic ads on your website, and it is free to be an Ezoic publisher.

But Ezoic also provides a full suite of tools that benefit publishers, that go beyond monetization.

We used Ezoic as our exclusive ad network for 3 years, with 5 websites. And we made some money with them.

Ezoic offers some great solutions for publishers – starting with them having ZERO traffic requirements. So even if you have a brand new site, you can work with them (assuming you follow their guidelines).

But as our traffic has grown, we have found that a better platform for us is Monumetric. As we have found that Monumetric’s ad designs, placements and payout times are better than Ezoic’s.

However, if you don’t yet meet Monumetric’s 10,000 pageview minimum, Ezoic is a good option.

What Is Ezoic?

Ezoic calls itself a “fully automated A.I. website testing company” with the aim of helping creators monetize their websites.

It does this by using AdSense and DoubleClick Ad Exchange, along with a powerful A.I. program to adapt ads, frameworks, and layouts which maximizes the revenue of each visit.

By being an end-to-end platform, Ezoic gives the power to monetize directly to publishers, website owners, and bloggers.

You’ll be given a comprehensive set of tools you can use to optimize your website performance and monetize it.

This set of tools includes, but are not limited to:

  • Site Speed Analysis and Optimization
  • Big Data Analytics
  • AMP Conversion
  • Layout Testing
  • Video Hosting & Tools

This is in addition to the ad placement/monetization features.

And get this – Ezoic has ZERO traffic minimum requirements! So even if your site is young, so long as your content is quality, it can be monetized with Ezoic.

So if you’re considering making use of Ezoic’s services, or are just interested in monetizing your blog/website, read on to see what we thought of Ezoic!

How Does Ezoic Work?

As mentioned above, there are a number of tools available from Ezoic.

The main one, and the one we’ll be focusing on the most, is their Ezoic Ad Tester.

Ezoic Ad Tester allows sites to adapt in real-time to enhance ad revenue and the user experience.

First off, it’s worth discussing how general advertising on websites works, in order to get an idea of how Ezoic works.

Web content consumers, like you and I, change our behavior as we go from webpage to webpage.

Typically, advertisers are in constant competition for web visitors based on their attributes.

A common aspect of this competition is that websites usually do not adapt to these differences in behavior.

A good way to illustrate this point is to imagine each visitor to a webpage as a buyer in an auction house. Every click from every visitor creates something akin to a virtual auction, and the advertisers are the sellers.

Accepting cookies and web data on multiple websites create a digital footprint, which advertisers use to create a blueprint of a user. This process is done programmatically.

Advertisers make value judgments based on the type of visitor and potential conversion rates. Demand for ad space on any given website fluctuates, but the website supply remains static.

It can be costly to show every visitor to your website the same ad placements.

This cost comes not only in the form of an unbalance of supply vs demand, but also in terms of missed opportunities.

You might be wondering what happens when you run Ezoic on your website, is there anything that you need to do?

The short answer is no, once you’ve installed Ezoic on your website, you can go about your day.

Owing to the advanced A.I. technology, Ezoic’s Ad Tester automatically runs thousands of computations to analyze the behavior of different demographics of visitors.

Alongside this, Ezoic’s Ad Tester split tests ad density and ad location to determine the ad configuration needed for a user.

With the above in mind, how does this relate to Ezoic? Well, the biggest selling point of Ezoic is the A.I. system.

The optimizations don’t just happen and then stop. The more data your site feeds this A.I. system, the more your site improves.

A good way to think about using Ezoic is that it’s a semi-long-term investment for monetizing your website.

What Tools Does Ezoic Offer?

As mentioned above, Ezoic has a fantastic set of tools, all of which are aimed at optimizing your website along with ad placement and revenue.

Some of these tools are available in the free trial version of Ezoic, whereas others will require you to subscribe.

Big Data Analytics

Big Data Analytics from Ezoic looks and feels very much like Google’s Analytics tool. There is one key difference between the two, though.

Ezoic’s Big Data Analytics enables you to see ad revenue in greater detail.

For example, it allows you to see metrics like revenue by device and landing page. This sort of in-depth analysis just isn’t possible with the free version of Google Analytics.

Site Speed Analysis and Optimization

Also known as Ezoic’s Site Speed Accelerator, this tool does as its name suggests.

By working with your site and using a caching tool, Ezoic says, in a 2019 study, that an average website can see increased speeds of 200%.

Layout Testing

This tool works in the same way that Ezoic’s Ad Tester does.

The difference between the two is that the Layout Tester optimizes your website’s page layout instead of ad layout.

It does this by performing a series of multivariate tests to work out a layout that is best suited for a specific user. All of this is done based on data.

The one downside of the layout tester and this is a debatable downside, is that it needs time on your site to collect data on users.

AMP Converter

Another free tool, the Google AMP Converter, enables users to convert any website page to a Google AMP-compliant mobile site.

By going through Ezoic’s AMP converter, any ad setup and functionality on your site will be maintained.

A known issue with other AMP converters is that they might strip down the AMP version of your site, removing certain functions like menu and button functionality.

Is Ezoic Trustworthy?

In our experience, yes, Ezoic is trustworthy. There are a number of factors that we looked at to determine whether Ezoic is a trustworthy company.

Customer Service

The first aspect we looked at is Ezoic’s customer service.

It wouldn’t be an over-exaggeration to say that their customer service is excellent.

The customer support team were easy to reach and very knowledgeable.

If you choose to sign up for their Premium package, you’ll be assigned an Onboarding Manager, who will work with you.

The Onboarding Manager’s role is to teach you how to use Ezoic’s set of tools and start you off.

Focus On Client Success

Ezoic has an unyielding commitment to its customer’s success.

It’s almost a myth or too good to be true, considering they are a website monetization company that gives you access to some amazing tools.

How Much Do You Earn With Ezoic?

This is a difficult question to answer, as everyone’s website is different.

Each of our websites attracts a different demographic, all with a different digital footprint.

All of these variables and more make an accurate projection of how much money you stand to make by using Ezoic almost impossible to predict.

The general trends of customers who’ve used Ezoic are that after a couple of months, they saw a healthy increase in ad venue.

In addition, we help our clients buy and sell websites from the Niche Investor marketplace, and can recommend Ezoic or Monumetric to them, and assist in moving sites to either platform whenever possible.

Pros and Cons Of Ezoic

You can probably see by now that we are big fans of Ezoic.

But in order to be unbiased, we’ve included a pros and cons list to try and illustrate whether Ezoic is a company worth working with for yourself, or not.

Ezoic Pros

  • One of the major pros of Ezoic is the set of tools available to you off the bat. They’re all incredibly comprehensive. When they are used in isolation, they might not give you the right results. Used in conjunction with each other, however, they can turn your website into a powerhouse.
  • Using the set of Ezoic tools will increase your ad venue. By how much is dependent on so many factors, but the general trend is upwards.
  • Ezoic is free to use, but they also have a premium feature upgrade, where you can choose to pay a monthly fee which will give you access to higher-paying ads. This is an optional, nice bonus.
  • Zero traffic requirements to get on the platform!

Ezoic Cons

  • The ads themselves are not very attractive. Some of the ad designs look spammy, and the placements (if not monitored carefully) can make your website look low quality as a result. Both Monumetric and Mediavine’s ad designs are far superior.
  • Ezoic offers a ‘premium’ tier, where if your site is approved, you will gain access to higher-paying ads – but at a cost, You’ll have to pay a monthly subscription (sometimes as high as $400 per month) to access it.
  • Then, the big con of using Ezoic Premium is that if you sign on for premium, you will be locked into Ezoic exclusively for several years. You won’t be allowed to move your site away from Ezoic if you want to, until the contract completes.

It was because of this issue with Ezoic Premium that I felt Ezoic was no longer a good fit for my websites. I tried to leave Premium and they wouldn’t let me. I am locked in paying hundreds of dollars a month (taken from my Ezoic earnings automatically) for the next 2 years, with no chance of escape.

  • Another con, and this might not be classed as an explicit con of Ezoic, however, it is worth noting. As Ezoic is a Google Certified Publishing Partner, your site will need to meet Google’s policies. So if your site was denied by Adsense, chances are you won’t be approved at Ezoic either.

Honest Ezoic Review – Conclusion

Having this background knowledge if you’re thinking about using Ezoic is, we think, important.

Getting set up with Ezoic is relatively easy, and once you’re off the ground, Ezoic’s A.I. and tools run round the clock collecting data and configuring ad placement.

Using these tools is simple, and the dashboard configuration is laid out to make it as user-friendly as possible.

And with no traffic minimum requirements to join, Ezoic is certainly worth considering for a new website.

If you’re considering making use of Ezoic’s services to host ads on your website, they’re definitely worth a serious look.

However, we would recommend that Monumetric is a better ad network, with less suffocating contracts.
